Jewish-American "Abstract Expressionist" Mark Rothko 1903- 1970.
Born in the Russian Empire...arrived in the U.S. in 1913 at Ellis Island
...Apparently, he hated being called an abstract painter and was inspired by mythology and Greek tragedy.
