MTV EXIT (End Exploitation and Trafficking) Campaign

Human trafficking is the recruitment, transportation, harbouring, or receipt of people for the purpose of exploitation. It is estimated to be a $5 to $9 billion-a-year industry.

The MTV EXIT Campaign was launched in Europe and Asia to bring awareness to this ongoing epidemic. Radiohead contributed their single "All I Need" to accompany a video showing and comparing a day in the life of a child forced to work in a shoe factory against a child who wears them as he goes about his daily experience.

Writer's Block

Over the past year, I have taken a different approach toward writing lyrics...which sometimes turn out to be meaningless to listeners who either don't understand or are incapable of using self interpretation. Being that I have been attempting to complete some sort of solo project, I would get frustrated when I could only write half of a piece because I hate putting things down and coming back to them. Writer's block?...

Have you ever been able to distinguish natural from forced writing?

Have I stopped writing with a specific intent??? Now that I really think about it, these days it feels like I don't even write my own words or lyrics...it's from some sort of exogenous source....coming from elsewhere and tapping something within and outside of my thoughts that I often fail to activate on sudden command....Come Back.

Live, Life, Lost --

Thoughts travel throughout a mind skipping over pools of ideas and memories. Losing time and history can break a spirit. Material things are the treasured losses yet replaceable; short term. What about those we can't buy back?

I would like to say that this woman is absolutely amazing. The passion that lies within her lyrics and sound provides a sense of admiration. Please listen, learn, and take heed.

Is there any path?

Medical treatments have been engineered by some of the greatest minds. For what? to rid those in pain, to cure the sick, or is it simply for those to convince themselves that they can alter the natural flow of life? Medical science can delay the ineveitable and cause a lot of pain not only for the sick but for the loved ones as well. Is it worth it?

The dichotomy of art and commerce! Before the Music Dies is an interesting glance at today's music industry. This documentary sheds light on current trends and label practices and how it all evolved with the proliferation of major labels, internet and technology. There are interviews and performances from many artists, both "successful" and not. Provides great insight, worth watching!

Radiohead

Sunday Night I took a solo venture out to the Radiohead "In Rainbows" tour ...in a 45 degree Vicious Monsoon!!! The flooded roads and mud pools were not at all a deterrent... This turned out to be well worth it, especially since they never tour the US. I definitely remember songs like "Creep", "Paranoid Android" and "Karma Police" from years and years ago but I really got into Radiohead's Kid A and most recent In Rainbows albums. I had the pleasure of running into some good people from the HoCo, MD area..we jammed out in the parking lot to Sirius radio, collectively forming a nice constituency for good music! The frozen margarita in a freezing, torrential downpour was the worst choice I've made in quite some time but Thom Yorke and Co heated it up within a matter of notes!!! Great experience! The Album In Rainbows is a spectacular work!

Gnarls Barkley "No Time Soon"

Spinning Studio from kwest on Vimeo.
Since we will be at his show this weekend, I snooped around on Kanye West's blog and found this. "No Time Soon" from Gnarls Barkley's 2008 release The Odd Couple. The song is hot...especially the transition into each hook with the echo on the vocal.

Ben Tour

Artist and illustrator out of Vancouver. Much of his work is based in human expression and altered features. He's become pretty well-known within the art world, setting up shows internationally. His work is stagnant, yet moving. Fascinating.
