Damnbition

Saw this quote the other day written on the whiteboard at an associate's desk...

"Energy without focus dissipates into aimless busyness or wasteful failures".
-Heike Bruch

Many of us have the desire to be successful...it's almost automatic. I would still argue that for most of us, "successful" is far too ambiguous. It's much more difficult to achieve a goal if that goal is vague and underdeveloped. Find out what that goal is first...make it relevant and honest and then shoot. Work hard...but work smart.

Quote by a great economist

"The Great Depression, like most other periods of severe unemployment, was produced by government mismanagement rather than by any inherent instability of the private economy."

Milton Friedman

Now...government does some good...but whether it was the lack of oversight which encouraged greed or perhaps the failure to take proactive measures, this could have been prevented. Many say we are witnessing corporate Darwinism...More importantly, it would be great to know that we have bottomed out and the climb is imminent. What fixes this madness?

RIP LeRoi Moore 1961-August 2008

Saxophonist LeRoi Moore played an integral role in the renown music of The Dave Matthews Band. LeRoi passed away at age 46 earlier this week due to complications stemming from a June 2008 ATV Crash that happened at his home in Virginia just two days after I watched him perform his last show with the band. We have lost another great talent.

Hold Fast lyrics

I walked outside scrunching my face
I love when the drums and the bass encompass the space
It's in the kitchen children come get a taste...wanted to race...
but I started running in place
It sounded so fresh...no catch...when they throw down
a profound offering...oxygen hits
turned loose, got caught in the mix
you can call it a trip. I'll probably flip if they call it legit..listen...
Play me something vicious...play me something mean
that comes between one-hundred dream to touch the unforeseen
This is absurdly the dirtiest version of coming clean...
There is no running water, composure becomes disorder
This sort of animal that makes me go in panic mode....
I'm standing thrown in the midst of the sound
Levitation; lift from the ground...mission is found...ignition is turned
Then I sit back listen and learn...
I was feeling the burn, give me the breeze...
I've found a balance...
Here is where I'm finding equilibrium alignment...
Here resides what I was after...exactly the driving factor that had me in tact..
So I react when it arrives to capture
I will respond.
I will be receptive...connected when I feel at ease..I'll receive
The message given sent from the soul...uplift and unfold into a
Position where vision is..
That yields a derivative so...
Show me something clever...I'll proceed to find
What redefines what's recent indeed it exceeds the times
This is precisely what could enlighten and free my mind
There is no interference..confusion becomes coherence
This form of resurrection sends me through the next progression...
I hear perfection in the midst of the sound....
Levitation; lift from the ground, mission is found...ignition is turned...then I sit back, listen and learn!

I need to take a breather...

I apologize for not being as vocal as I should have been over the past couple of months but I needed to take moment of clarity.

From dawn until dusk I want more, yearn for a new experience.

Can the acceptance of reality be a distraction to dreams?

Do you hear me?

I remembered watching this movie in 9th grade English! Thought about it the other day and looked it up on Amazon.com, $7 dollar steal!!! Came in the mail a few weeks back.
I watched the movie...did the track immediately after with my own piano/vocal sample...
It's interesting to see what people in the 1960's thought today would be like. I'm glad they haven't destroyed all literature yet!

Dave Matthews Band 6/28

This band works so well together!!! Dave Matthews is not only a great songwriter but has a remarkable voice, Carter Beauford is definitely one of my favorite drummers and Boyd Tinsley is a man amongst boys when he hits a violin solo. I didn't even know half the tunes they played but everything sounded amazing!

MTV EXIT (End Exploitation and Trafficking) Campaign

Human trafficking is the recruitment, transportation, harbouring, or receipt of people for the purpose of exploitation. It is estimated to be a $5 to $9 billion-a-year industry.

The MTV EXIT Campaign was launched in Europe and Asia to bring awareness to this ongoing epidemic. Radiohead contributed their single "All I Need" to accompany a video showing and comparing a day in the life of a child forced to work in a shoe factory against a child who wears them as he goes about his daily experience.

Writer's Block

Over the past year, I have taken a different approach toward writing lyrics...which sometimes turn out to be meaningless to listeners who either don't understand or are incapable of using self interpretation. Being that I have been attempting to complete some sort of solo project, I would get frustrated when I could only write half of a piece because I hate putting things down and coming back to them. Writer's block?...

Have you ever been able to distinguish natural from forced writing?

Have I stopped writing with a specific intent??? Now that I really think about it, these days it feels like I don't even write my own words or lyrics...it's from some sort of exogenous source....coming from elsewhere and tapping something within and outside of my thoughts that I often fail to activate on sudden command....Come Back.

Is there any path?

Medical treatments have been engineered by some of the greatest minds. For what? to rid those in pain, to cure the sick, or is it simply for those to convince themselves that they can alter the natural flow of life? Medical science can delay the ineveitable and cause a lot of pain not only for the sick but for the loved ones as well. Is it worth it?

Radiohead

Sunday Night I took a solo venture out to the Radiohead "In Rainbows" tour ...in a 45 degree Vicious Monsoon!!! The flooded roads and mud pools were not at all a deterrent... This turned out to be well worth it, especially since they never tour the US. I definitely remember songs like "Creep", "Paranoid Android" and "Karma Police" from years and years ago but I really got into Radiohead's Kid A and most recent In Rainbows albums. I had the pleasure of running into some good people from the HoCo, MD area..we jammed out in the parking lot to Sirius radio, collectively forming a nice constituency for good music! The frozen margarita in a freezing, torrential downpour was the worst choice I've made in quite some time but Thom Yorke and Co heated it up within a matter of notes!!! Great experience! The Album In Rainbows is a spectacular work!

Feist

Caught Leslie Feist in Philadelphia last night. If one has listened to anything other than her "1,2,3,4" iPod commercial song, they would probably agree that this Grammy nominated artist from Canada is on point. Her vocal quality and pitch is phenomenal. I love how she uses a loop pedal to record live raw harmony layers and then sings her main vocal over them. After finishing one piece, the lights dropped and she let the loop run for a few bars by itself...very nice! Her band members all play multiple instruments (including horns!) and pitch in on harmonies as well. The stage backdrop was a continuous projector shadow art progression run by two talented young ladies. Great show.

How much do you think you are worth?

The work and dedication; its the networking that moves you along. Do you think you can be bought? Sometimes personal standards may be outweighed by a promotional opportunities. Throughout the early stages, being a yes man sometimes seems standard in order to get to the top.

...to where?
Yeah, Gentrify, and the rationale ranges wide....the most common being "bringing taxpayers back into the cities"...for or against? I'm a bit torn and ignorant to the aggregate effect...but wouldn't pass on a vicious spot in the city.
